Reefer Troubleshooting Guidance
One of our main questions we will ask over the phone is “what type of reefer is it”. Alot of the time the customer does not know, it’s not your speciality, you’re not meant to know. But to help with some basic knowledge on what you have on your site, here is some simple information about the common types of reefers and also their major parts.

Carrier Reefers
A very common reefer type is the Carrier unit. When we often ask “what type of reefer do you have” our customers will say “i don’t know, it’s the blue one”. Well this is the “blue one”.
It is common to see older Carrier units out in the domestic market after shipping lines have sold some of their older fleet. These are reliable containers.

Thermo King Reefers
Another very common reefer type is the Thermo King unit. There are 2 main types of Thermo King reefers - MP3000 and MP4000. The MP4000 is a new model container whilst the MP3000 has been around for years, whilst being very reliable it is now more commonly seen in the domestic market as shipping lines have gotten rid of their older fleer.
The most common phone call we get for these is “my reefer is showing a sad face on the screen”. This is a simple indicator for people to know that there is an alarm which needs attention. Simply click the alarm button and it will give you the information about the alarm.

Starcool Reefers
The newest type of reefer container is the Starcool unit. Starcool are a very innovative company and have done very well in the development of their reefers. There are 2 main types of Starcool reefers - CIM5 and CIM6. The CIM6 is a new model container whilst the CIM5 has been around for years, whilst being very reliable it is now more commonly seen in the domestic market as shipping lines have gotten rid of their older fleer.

Daikin Reefers
Daikin is the another commonly used reefer unit. There are 2 main types of Daikin reefers - LXE10E and Zestia. The Zestia is a new model container whilst the LXE10E has been around for years and is still being produced. Daikin reefers are very reliable units with low failure rates, however they are looked at as being complicated to troubleshoot.
